The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government funding program designed to offer financial support to Australians living with a disability. It is designed to provide funding directly to the individuals and their carers, so that they may gain access to the services they need to live an active fulfilling life.

The funding can be used for a wide range of tailored services and products, such as home modifications, special care, occupational therapy or equipment – whatever the specific person needs to participate fully in occupation, recreation or education.

Managing your plan

There are three ways to manage your plan:

Self-management

The NDIS provides you with funding so you can access the supports that will best help you pursue your goals.

If you are self-managed, you pay for your supports directly and claim back from the NDIS to get reimbursed. Remember that when self-managing, you are responsible for being aware of what can be claimed for on your plan.

Plan-managed funding

The NDIS will provide funding in your plan to pay for a Plan Manager who pays your providers for you, helps you keep track of funds and takes care of financial reporting for you.

If you are plan-managed, discuss your needs with one of our team or book a consultation. We will provide a quote to your plan manager and once it has been approved and paid, we will supply the products to you.

Agency-managed funding

The NDIS pays your providers on your behalf.

If you are Agency-managed, discuss your needs with one of our team or book a consultation.  As a NDIS registered provider, back to sleep is able to submit claims directly to the NDIS.

Assistive Technology explained

Assistive Technology (AT) is equipment or devices that help you do things you can’t do because of your disability.  Assistive technology may also help you do something more easily or safely.

You should talk with a qualified AT advisor about your needs and situation to help you identify the most appropriate AT solution. The AT advisor may be an allied health practitioner, continence nurse, rehabilitation engineer, AT mentor or other qualified practitioner.

The NDIS has different processes for low (under $1,500), mid ($1,500 to $15,000) or high cost AT (over $15,000).

Low cost AT (under $1,500) is typically funded from the Core – Consumables section of your budget. Some examples of low cost AT are continence products, rollators, non-slip mats, walking sticks and basic shower chairs or stools.

Mid cost AT ($1,500 to $15,000) requires Assistive Technology to be included as part of the Capital section of your budget.  The NDIS does not require a quote for mid cost items but they will require written evidence, such as a report from your AT advisor. Some examples of mid cost AT are lift recliners, hilo/adjustable beds and pressure care mattresses.

High cost AT (over $15,000) requires Assistive Technology to be included as part of the Capital section of your budget. High cost AT purchases will require an assessment from a qualified AT assessor and a formal quote. Some examples of high cost AT include complex hoists, bariatric HiLo beds and high care pressure care mattresses.

What Is NDIS Bedding?

NDIS bedding includes beds, mattresses, and related accessories that support your mobility, health, and safety while you sleep. Allied healthcare professionals typically recommend it as part of a care or therapy plan and can be fully or partially funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Depending on your needs, this might include:

  • NDIS contracted adjustable beds
  • NDIS-compatible pressure relief mattresses
  • Bed rails, support aids, and bed wedges
  • Mattress upgrades for better back support
  • Customised options to suit your goals and condition

At Back to Sleep, we’re a trusted NDIS bed provider in Melbourne with years of experience fitting clients with the right solutions, especially when standard options fall short.

Sleep Equipment Matters for NDIS Participants

Sleep isn’t just about rest. It’s a crucial part of physical recovery, mental wellbeing, and independence. If your bed is uncomfortable, hard to get in and out of, or doesn’t support your condition, it may cause more harm than good.

That’s where we come in.

We offer NDIS-funded HiLo electric beds and compatible bedding solutions that can help:

  • Improve safe transfers and mobility
  • Reduce pressure injuries or flare-ups
  • Support postural alignment and pain relief
  • Provide safer, more efficient carer support
  • Prevent issues caused by poor sleep or low-quality equipment

NDIS Contracted Adjustable Beds: Support That Moves With You

If you need better positioning in bed, whether to ease breathing, relieve back pain, or make daily care easier, NDIS-contracted adjustable beds are a great option.

Unlike standard beds, these can be customised to:

  • Elevate the head or legs to reduce swelling or discomfort
  • Assist with sitting up independently
  • Adjust to suit feeding, reading, or resting comfortably
  • Work with a variety of mattress types, including pressure care options

We carry a full range of adjustable beds for seniors, children, and participants with high or complex care needs. If you’re unsure what configuration is best, our friendly consultants are happy to speak with your chosen Allied Healthcare professional directly.

Matching the Right Mattress With Your Bed

It’s not just about the bed base. Choosing the right back care mattress is important, especially for those managing pain, pressure injuries, or musculoskeletal conditions.

Our NDIS-contracted mattress range includes:

  • Foam support mattresses for everyday comfort and spinal alignment
  • Alternating air mattresses to reduce pressure and improve circulation
  • Hybrid options for clients/participants with complex care needs or high injury risk

All options are tested for use with HiLo electric beds and adjustable bases. If you’re unsure which NDIS contracted beds you or your client/participant needs, we can help walk you through the benefits of each option.

Easy Delivery & Setup Across Melbourne

We offer home delivery and installation across Greater Melbourne, making sure your NDIS contracted adjustable bed is set up properly, tested, and ready to use. We can also walk you through how it works and ensure everything integrates smoothly.

If you’re in a facility or supported living environment, we’re happy to work with your care team or site coordinator for a smooth setup.
