Neck pain and stiffness are extremely common and can affect your life in a lot of different ways.
Neck Pain
Ranging from sharp pains to dull aches and headaches, a sore neck and the lack of ability to move freely can be very frustrating. The most common neck pain we deal with is the “I woke up like this.”
Neck pain is quite often due to poor posture during the night. Our bodies go into autopilot at night as they prioritise sleep time functions and will toss and turn until they are comfortable, so it is absolutely vital that we give our bodies the best chance of a great night’s sleep on a comfortable and supportive mattress and pillow.
Pillows are usually the first to blame and rightly so; their job is to support your head and neck in a neutral position during sleep. If your pillow doesn’t suit your size, shape, sleeping style and even the firmness of your mattress, chances are you’ll be placing undue pressure on your joints and muscles. It doesn’t stop there though! For example, every part of our body is connected, which means that if you find yourself with uncomfortable hips during the night and roll towards your stomach, think about the unnatural rotational position you’re placing on your neck in this position.
Correcting posture in bed can go a very long way in relieving neck pain, but it’s important to consider the big picture. What part of your bedding environment is causing you pain?
