Over 80% of people will experience back pain at some stage of their life.
Back pain
It is one of the most common reasons for people missing work, using over the counter painkillers and seeing a doctor or physiotherapist. Not only can it be painful and distressing but over an extended period, back pain can really prevent you from participating in life and living to your fullest potential.
There are numerous causes of back pain but generally they fall into the sudden (traumatic) or sustained overstress injury category. The fantastic news is that most people’s back pain is preventable!
Sudden injury is common with poor lifting techniques and can be avoided by using correct manual handling skills. More often than not, the type of back pain we see at back to sleep is positional stress or postural fatigue which creates an overload mainly on the lower back over an extended period of time and results in injury and pain.
Poor posture when sitting, standing, lifting and sleeping can place unnecessary stress upon your spine. Muscles fatigue, ligaments overstretch, discs stretch and this places spinal joints and nerves under pressure, causing pain. When our mattress lacks support, it places our bodies and particularly our spines in odd positions often for 6-8 hours. No wonder you wake feeling awful!
Maintaining a well-supported, neutral position in bed allows your joints and muscles to relax and release their tension, meaning they (and you) have a greater chance of waking refreshed and pain-free.
